Client Success Story

Neighborcare Health

Seattle, Washington
Neighborcare Health

For more than 40 years, Neighborcare Health has provided a healthcare home for many of Seattle’s most vulnerable residents, regardless of income or insurance status

The Challenge

In August 2008, Neighborcare asked Collins to partner with them to conduct a feasibility study for multiple clinic projects under consideration. The study helped Neighborcare identify their donors, highest priority –  a new co-located medical and dental facility in Seattle’s underserved Rainier Valley. With the positive study results, Collins began providing campaign counsel in the spring of 2009 to help guide their philanthropic strategy.

The Approach

Led by a determined volunteer committee supported by strong staff, Neighborcare cultivated and solicited more than 100 prospects. By the time the new clinic opened its doors in January 2011, ongoing campaign fundraising stood at $5.7 million, including almost $500,000 from individuals and a record amount of government and foundation funding.

The Results

The new Rainier Beach Medical and Dental Clinic preserved services to 10,000 current patients and increased access to 4,000 more.

Continuing the Relationship

Collins now serves as campaign counsel for Neighborcare’s next priority: The Meridian Center for Health. This transformative, integrated healthcare campus will increase Neighborcare’s capacity to provide quality medical, dental, and mental healthcare to low-income residents in north Seattle, serving over 14,000 people annually.

I believe we got a very good analysis of the state of our affairs, a realistic view of what we’re working to raise a significant amount of money. It was really honest…we have to focus on the individual donors right now. You gave us a road map."
