The Methow Valley, just east of the North Cascades and west of the Columbia River, contains some of the most diverse and productive habitat of the entire Columbia Basin – and, as many of you know, gorgeous, sweeping vistas.
Methow Conservancy is trusted with protecting this land and its wild inhabitants. They asked Collins Group to partner with them on a campaign feasibility study to explore funding conservation easements to ensure the long-term security of this land. Located in a valley where the full-time population is just about 5,000, the campaign truly inspired widespread community support among local and second home owners.
Based on these types of conversations, Collins and the Conservancy developed a multi-year $20 million campaign plan which was grounded in a vision that resonated beyond one isolated project or one constituency group. They also brought people together, over and over, in small groups and large, to understand what people value about the valley. In the end, they met their goal, receiving gifts from more than 1,500 donors!
When we asked simple questions – What do you love about this place? What do you want to ensure your children or grandchildren experience?—it was very illuminating how much even the most diverse stakeholders had in common."
